I am installing a sliding glass door, and the 220 line for my dryer runs right through the center of the opening I cut out. I will have to run the wire over the top of the door, but it is not long enough. How can I splice in about a 6-8ft length of wire? This line starts in the garage area , and to get to the dryer area is a long distance and would be almost impossible to replace the entire wire. This 220 line is ONLY for the dryer. Thanks

You can slice a 240 line but only inside a box. What gauge wire and how many are there right now?

Ballengerb1 is right on. Also boxes should not be enclosed inside wall, should be assessable

Yes. Install TWO boxes, and run a length of wire between them.

Check the electrical code to make sure the boxes are large enough.

I am assuming the dryer is a 30 amp circuit, no. 10 AWG wire. If so, you can splice with wire nuts.

As others have posted, the splices must be accessible after the installation. Do not install drywall over the boxes.

Another alternative would be to pull back the wire from the garage, route it around your opening, and install one box in the garage.
