US Citizen + US Permant Resident wife filing for 1 month of work in the US
    Here's my situation:

I am a US Citizen with Canadian Permanent Residency, my wife is a Canadian Citizen with US Permanent Residency. We have lived in Canada the past 10 years, then moved to the US (Atlanta, Georgia) in September 2008. We both found employment for December 1, 2008. On December 31, 2008 we were still living in Georgia. On February 1, 2009 we moved back to Canada.

We were in the States a total of 4 months during 2008, each of us working 1 month. We both worked in Canada before moving in September.

I am not sure how to begin filing. I assume I start with 1 1040 form married filing jointly. BVut do I use 1 2255EZ form for each my wife and I or one form for our combined income? Do I convert the amount I earned in Canada based on an exchange rate, combine it with the amount I earned on my W-2 from the US and include that amount in the 1040?

How do I go about this?

You will need to use Form 2555, one for each of you.

You convert your Canadian salary to USD on the date you received it.

You MAY want to get professional tax help on this one.

You and your wife should have been filing U.S. tax returns (as well as Canadian tax returns) for the 10 years you lived in Canada.
