I just got my Boston Terrier puppy, he is about 6 weeks old and I am afraid the trainer didn't ween him off his mothers milk properly. I have only had him a day but he's only drank about an ounce of water today, I have tried just a normal dish I have tried a baby bottle and I have even tried a water bottle on his play pen. He won't drink a drop. I was told they should drink a lot of water. His nose is fairly dry and all he's been doing is sleeping. He eats well and when he is awake he is very playful. His breathing seems to be fine, he doesn't snore and he uses the bathroom on a normal schedule. Is this normal for his breed? I was told that he would be a lot more playful and energetic and it is quite a difference from my larger breed when she was a pup. I am so worried and do not know if I should take him to the vet immediately or if I am over reacting. Any insight to this would be helpful!!

Something you have to understand is he is ONLY 6 weeks... Normal ages to let puppies go especially those of small breeds are 7 to 8 weeks... that way they can eat food regularly... you will see more activity when he gets older... don't worry it will NEVER stop with a boston lol... if you are concerned call your vet or make an appt. A 6 week old puppy is not going to be drinking that much... try soaking his dry dog food in warm water for a few min. until the food is soft... every meal too... he will eventually get a bigger appetite and more hyper

He was taken from his mother too early. Puppies should never leave their mother before they are 8 weeks old, not just for their physical well being but so they can be properly, completely weened and socialized. There are just some things in life that a puppy can only learn from other dogs, chiefly their mother. Puppies taken too young are more prone to behavioral issues later on in life.

You need to bring your puppy to be examined by a vet. Most breeders require you to do this within a short time frame of getting your dog but you clearly got your dog from an uneducated backyard breeder, which was a large mistake on your part. He needs to be examined and get his proper shots. If he is not drinking then that could be a real problem. Dehydration is very dangerous for young puppies.
