How do you solve 3x - 12x 1/2 power=0

Does
3x - 12x 1/2 power=0
mean
$3X - sqrt{12X} = 0$

If so, move the 12~ to the other side, square both sides to remove the '^1/2' then divide by 9X

$3X = sqrt{12X}$
$9X^2 = 12X$
$9X = 12X$
$X = 4/3 or 1.33$

Or does that mean

$3x - 12x^{\frac{1}{2}} = 0$

You can factorise $3x^{\frac{1}{2}}$ to give
$3x^{\frac{1}{2}} (x^{\frac{1}{2}} - 4) = 0$

You should be able to take it from there.

Actually, raising something to the 1/2 is the same thing as the getting the radical. We apparently see the same problem, with different ways to solve it. Good alternate solution.
