Paying NY state tax, if I lived in NJ and worked in NYC.
    Hi,
In 2008, I lived in NJ and worked in NYC. On my W-2, my employer has provided me both NY and NJ state tax statements.

I am filing my tax returns (federal and state) through an online portal.

    (1) Since I lived in NJ state, do I need to file NY state tax as 'Non resident'..
    (2) I am told that tax paid out to NY, can be claimed as credit on NJ state returns. Which specific tax return form do I need to fill to claim this credit ?

Thanks a ton, for your help and attention.

Yes - use NY's non-resident form IT-203. Complete this before doing your NJ tax return.

On NJ-1040 you report "Taxes Paid to Other Jursdictions" on line 40. Use jurisdiction code 32 (New York), and complete Schedule A.
