Is there a question in there or the beginning of a HOW TO guide?

    KISS

The basics is here: Carrier sense multiple access with collision detection - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's like trying to talk on the phone. Try to talk. If you sense the other person talking hold back a variable amount of time and try again.

Switches are smart and have routing built into them, so the LAN doesn't become a big party line like it does with a HUB.

An answer, not sure if it's what's expected or if it's too much or too little detail.
