Can I be charged for stealing FAKE (counterfit) money from my workplace?
So I have a new job and in the break room there was a counterfit 100$ bill for display. I took it, thinking that well its not real, its like play money, like monopoly. Or so I thought, now they are saying that I am going to be criminally charged! Can they do this? And if so, what will I be charged with?

    Theft!

You took it, you didn't ask, doesn't matter if it was counterfeit or real.

    Stealing is stealing.

Why did you think it was counterfeit?

Helping oneself to items that are not theirs is called theft regardless if the item is genuine or fake.

I guess he was going to try and palm off the $100 on one of his friends otherwise why steal it? I don't think he was going to take it home and frame it and hang it on his wall.

You took something that wasn't yours. That's stealing.

    What would you call it?
