    Stepparent adoption
I live in Florida and have no father listed on my sons birth certificate. I've been married 2 years and me and my husband have been together since my son was 6 months old, he is now 3. I don't know who his biological dad is I only know his first name. What steps do I need to take in order for my husband to adopt my son. I'm trying to do it without a lawyer. I haven't seen the bio dad since I found out I was pregnant and in 3 years he has never tried to see my son. Would this classify as child abandonment?

You do NOT want to do this without an attorney. The court will want 6to make sure you made a good faith effort to find the bio father to him to relinquish his rights. And an attorney can detail what that good faith effort needs to be.

If you can't afford an attorney now then start saving and gofor the adoption when you can.

Since he is not listed and it it hard to say if you know where he is or not, you know his first name and seem to think he should have contacted you ?

But you will have to make ana ttempt to find him, if you can't do a notice published in the newspaper and more.

So yes you will need an attorney
