It' s not really anything to be alarmed about it is just an allergic reaction or a nervous habbit My vet told us that cause my boxer does it too. You can give them human benydrl half if you don't want her to be sleepy all day. This is what our vet told us to do. But other wise try not to let her lick it raw.

I use to foster pets for a rescue group until I accumulated so many as my own pets. What I noticed was that when excessive paw licking continued after treatment of anything that was causing the animal discomfort, be it anal glands, allergies, mange, fleas, ticks, etc. they had actually developed a fungus or yeast infection between their toes due to the constant moisture of their licking. I used monistat 7 day cream or Lotramin Liquid drops, applying it between the toes every day for 7 days after the licking stopped.
If you're unsure and cannot tell by looking at it, ask your vet to take a swab of the area between the toes and check it under the scope.
If your vet is apposed to this approach, find another vet.

My dog would lick his paws and all the vets said it was an allergy or he's anxious or that's just what dogs do... He typically licked before bed or at times when he wasn't preoccuppied with playing or whatever else is going on around the house. We tried, dog booties, bitter sprays, etc. but none worked.

Finally, we got a new vet and she found that he had YEAST in his paws. He was in this CYCLE where he would lick his paws because the yeast made him itchy but the yeast wouldn't go away because he was keeping his paws moist from the licking.

The vet perscribed to him ketaconzole to kill the yeast and determined that he was probably allergic to something to cause him to lick his paws in the first place. The ketoconazole killed the yeast, we give him a benadryl from time to time for his allergy when we notice he starts to lick again, and now his paws are no longer "stained" from his licking. He's also less irritated and a sweeter pup which is nice side bonus for us.

I suggest getting him tested for yeast in the spots that he licks.
