My friend came in to an emergency vet clinic with his dog and he couldn't pay the bill so I paid for it. The total came to 361.85 he hasn't paid a dime since nor has he returned my calls or responded to any letters. Is there anything I can do! '

Did you discuss at the time the form of repayment? If not then your "friend" may be able to easily claim he thought you were paying it without the intent of being repaid.

However, if you discussed the form of repayment at the time then I would suggest you correspond in writing with a deadline and a threat of a civil suit explaining that you will be asking to be compensated for the money you are out for the vet bill in addition to your court costs.

This is not accurate legal advice.

You take your friend to Small Claims Court. You will both argue your side of things - you will argue an oral agreement; he/she may or may not argue a gift.

You do NOT need to discuss a form of repayment at the time of the loan in order for it to be a loan.

The Judge will listen to both sides and make a decision on which makes the better sense.

I also NEVER advise threatening anyone with anything.

Thanks for all the advice. I had heard he had moved so I found him on my space emailed him and let him know that I would like for him to pay me back and I don't care if he even had to make payments. He actually responded and apologized and said he would mail payments. I will believe it when I see the payments in my hand :)
