Okay so im trying to train my puppy to go potty outside. He is kinda getting the hang of it. But when im at work he stays in my spare room. I have an 8-5 job, my puppy can't wait that long to go outside.

My question is What can I do for the smell. I mop the floor every day with bleach when I get off from work. But I can't get the smell to go away. I know im going to have a dog smell. But this smell is from him using the restroom...

I will try anything.... any advice please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are not going to have success housebreaking him at all, if you are going to leave him alone for over 9 hrs. everday locked up in a room. This is just cruel. I have no doubt why he is going to the bathroom in your spare room. My question wouldn't be why is he, it would be why wouldn't he? Wouldn't you? You can't keep a poor little pup locked up like that for so many hrs. with no interaction. Housebreaking and the smell is going to be the least of your training problems as he grows, if you continue to do this.

You knew when you got him that you were going to be gone for this extended length of time everyday. This should have been thought out before you got him. Dogs are social beings, and cannot be left alone like that! They will develop all sorts of social problems.

I suggest you hire a dog walker to come in and take him out, or at least look into doggy daycare. Someone should be able to take him for walks and give him playtime, possibly at a dog park, at least twice while you are gone, and then at least one long walk/run when you get home, to drain his energy, and give him the interaction he craves.

You said you would do anything, so this is your solution. A dog that gets adequate exercise will learn very quickly not to soil his living quarters, and then you won't have to worry at all about the smell, because there won't be any. Clean the area's he's already soiled, with bleach and then rinse it off well. Then clean with an odor neutralizing cleanser that you can buy at a pet store that is non-toxic, or you can use a solution of vinegar, water, and baking soda, or you could use something like Orange Clean.

But again, the key is the exercise, unless you want to be scrubbing everything down every single day. Also, when I say a walk, I don't just mean a stroll around the block. I mean a good fast paced walk/run. Or ideally, taking him with you on rollerblades or a bike would be great, and would drain his excess energy faster.

You will be surprised how much easier it is to train him to do many things, if he gets the exercise he needs, and he will be a much happier pup.
