How long can a PO take to approve a parole plan?
My husband violated his parole on a techinical violation. They are letting him back out on parole. The parole board officer said he would be out in a week. I called the prison today and they said the PO could take as long as he wanted to approve his parole plan is this true? He id going back to the same house he was before. Shouldn't they have to follow what the parole board says? I'm in Illinois someone please help.

    Hello Shorte:

They probably DO. But, the question is, what can you DO about it. My answer is, without a lawyer, nothing.

thanks I'm not getting a lawyer yet but if his PO drags his feet to long I will. I just didn't know if I would have anywhere to stand on it. There has to be some kind of regulations or something I would think. And I think the Parole Board has higher athority than the parole officer. Anything anyone can tell me about it would be helpful

    Hello S:

I don't think the local PO works for the parole board, so I don't think one has authority over the other.

You asked whether the local PO "should" follow the lead of the parole board. I agreed. They should, but I didn't say they were required to. I'm sorry if I gave you that impression..

The bottom line is, even if they are doing stuff that's technically against the rules and/or illegal, he'll be done before you could do anything about it. Just hold your tongue for a little while longer.
