    KISS

B is a non-standard color. It's probably common. If you have the ability to measure the voltage from R to B, it should be 24V at all times.

    (C) or common is sometimes required. It prevents drain on batteries.

In rare cases, both B and O are used. This usually happens with zone controls. B may sometimes be the complement of O.

Your looking for at least a 1 heat/1cool thermostat heat pump with auto-changeover. Take a look at Furnace Filters, Air Conditioner Filters, Air Quality - iaqsource. The Honeywell Vision Pro series will work, but they may be difficult for you to set up.
