How to get a "federally notarized" copy of passport for ITIN number
I work at a scientific institution and one of the scientists I support is a visiting scientist from Austria. He needs to fill out paperwork to get an ITIN number. I was told by the IRS that he needs to get the copy of his passport "federally notarized". They said that this could be done at the local IRS office; however, when I called this office, they told me that they did not notarize passports there and suggested I contact the State Department. Does anyone have any information on how he can get this notarized?

    Thanks!
