Does Ohio truck driver have right to breaks other than lunch?
My son is a Ohio truck driver, non union , and the boss is throwing a fit that he went inside a store, to purchase some tums and water, because he was feeling ill. The boss is screaming because he was inside store for 10 min. Aren't drivers allowed a 15 min break during the day? And if not couldn't he just say he would just reduce the time of his lunch, which on most days he doesn't even take-but works through that time and does not get paid for it.

    Thanks

Is he driving a semi... a commercial vehicle? Is he stictly instate, shorthauls or does he go interstate? How much he is driving, and where, can make a difference in regard to whether he follows DOT regulations or if he is also subject to what he hired onto with his employer. Often, employers will allow some flexibility in regard to how the break time is split up on their logs. Maybe he should have a chat and find out exactly what the expectations are and whether he has any leeway.

If he has to keep a logbook in order to drive, then there are prescribed breaks that the DOT require. If he is just a local delivery guy, then I don't know what the boss is getting bent out of shape about.

We need more info other than he's a non union driver here please.
