Hello I wonder if anyone can help, I am a self employed beautician who at the moment rents a room and has profit share in a local beauty salon.
My problem is this...
At this time I pay a rent of £25.00 per week to the salon owner plus I give her 55% of all moneys I take.
This is what I and several of my colleges agreed to pay and signed a room rental contract whitch will expire on 9th feb 2007.

Last night the salon owner dropped a bombshell! She now expects us to pay a weekly rent of £100.00 per week plus she wants us to sign a two year lock in contract which will mean we cannot work or provide services anywhere else.
This is a huge amount of money and we will struggle to find it but feel like we are being given no option.
She wants to start taking this rent from nov 2006!
Do we have any grounds to refuse or as our "land lady" is it entirely up to her what she charges us for rent of the beauty room?

Any advice would be welcomed

Here in the states there are a few angles to signing a booth renter to a contract. Some salons opt not to go that route--keep your people happy and informed with an open door policy, things should go very well.

Making the decision to sign your booth renters to a contract--as a salon owner myself, you have to assume that some are not going to want to sign and leave your establishment. The salon owner does have the right to ask you to sign a contract and you have the right to not sign it. If you do not sign it--I would be prepared to leave the salon. These are situations that salon owners and booth renters really hate but we are all in the business to make our full income potential. I hope this helped

I believe you are paying too much with both rent and giving over half of your earnings to her. :eek:
I know you can pay three to four hundred a month renting and keep all of your money. I would start looking for a salon you can rent monthly!
