    Win 32 problem!
Hi, new to the site so sorry if this is a stupid question!

I have just given my old computer to my 11 year old son to update his windows 98 PC as he has just bought a new star wars game that will only run on 2000/xp.

So far so good but as it was a big program I decided to delete a lot of unused prorams and somehow deleted the win 32 drivers for the dvd rom so now even though I have the original set up disc for it the PC doesn't recognise that there is a dvd drive at all... any suggestions? But before anybody tells me to connect it to the web... I cant... sorry

That's odd since the DVD-ROM device does not need any drivers to be recognized by the BIOS, and once the BIOS sees it then Windows picks it up. Did you happen to uninstall any CD burning software?

Hey Needkarma thanks for the quick reply!

Actually you are right I did delete gold basic (I think) burner... I have the disc for that too but obviously the drive won't work to re-load it... any ideas?

I have seen this problem before - something to do with the Windows Registry. If you are comfortable editing the Registry then:

    1. Click on START button, the click on RUN
    2. Enter REGEDIT and press enter
    3. When REGEDIT starts, open up the following folders
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    Class
    {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    4. After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
    "Upperfilters"
    "Lowerfilters"
Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.

Right-click the Start button and select Properties.
At the Start Menu tab put a dot in Classic Start Menu
    Click on the Customize button
Make Display Run has a checkmark.
