Replace a Delta 3 handle shower stem?
I have an older 3-knob Delta shower system (hot, cold and diverter) and the hot water handle has broken. I removed the plastic knob and found that the plastic stem is shredded. I need to know how to remove the old piece and replace it.

To make things more fun, the knob to control the local water flow to the shower on the hot water side has broken off. How can I replace the stem without turning off the main water to the house or turning off the water to shower?

Delta 3 handle system - I found the diverter stem at Ace Hardware(way over priced. When I put it back in the assembly it was very difficult to get in also I'm not for sure if it matters which way it goes in (seal towards the top or bottom?)anyway I put it all back together and it didn't work, I read somewhere that I should use high temp grease, is that necessary? So I went to Home Depot to get some grease and the man said for me to save my money and just use WD40, so I did, still had to force it in. The Home Depot man also told me that if I brought the whole assembly in that they would replace it for free since Delta has a lifetime guarantee. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks,

I would suggest to remove the stem and take it to the Home Depot if they can replace it for you with out any chrges and this is true that delta parts has a life time warrant, good luck.
