Retired salaried in one state renting house in another
Virginia was my state of resident and I still want it to be. I am retired on disability and receive retirement from state of virginia on a retirement fund I paid into while working. I moved to the state of Maryland in June 2008. I still have a house and mtg in virginia and renting in Maryland. Do I have to pay taxes to both states. I really want my place pf resident to stay Virginia Born and raised there. Thanks for any help I have lost sleep not knowing what the answer will be or not wanting to face the answer I will get. Thanks A lot to any one who has a knowledge of these two states. Karen

I am not an attorney nor a tax professional, but have been a property owner in one state and a renter in another. I was told that I pay income taxes based on the address on my driver's license as it is my "official" residence. Hope this helps.
