My old friend has a gas forced air DV unit Model G1D91BU and after coming back from the south she is having a problem with the furnace heating up the house. The furnace did run for a short time and after I drained some water from the blower for the combustion it seems to help keep it running.

I did read the manual and it says I need to prime the trap by pouring 1 cup of water down the vent pipe. Also says on initial start up of unit,some of the water used to prime the trap may run down into the combustion blower and cause noise.

It doesn't say anything on draining the combustion blower but that thing had several cups of water coming from it. I pulled the small yellow cap from the bottom drain of the combustion blower and then it comes out.

I did not pour any water into the vent before I turned the heat on.

I think the vent allowed rain water to enter the vent and that is where all this water came from. How much water should be inside that blower housing if any?

I wish the manual explained the draining of this better. Any help in understanding this would be great. Thanks from a cold and tired old friend from the north.

First I would ask that you post a pic of the furnace venting and draft inducer(the blower you are speaking of).

You have a plugged drain line on the furnace. There should be some rubber hoses in the upper compartment of the furnace. Disconnect them(one side at a time) and blow through them. Then go to the other end and blow through it(make sure to hook the hoses back up after each blow.). There really should be no water in the draft inducer. Since you have so much, you definitely have a plugged drain line(which would allow the water to drain to the furnace trap and then out to wherever it drains from there.). Please post the pics and I can tell you exactly what lines need to be cleaned. The reason the furnace works for a short time after draining the water, is because the furnace will run until it condensates enough to back up with water, causing the pressure switch to open. Get that drain problem fixed, and I promise you will have them back in heat before you know it. Good luck and please let me know what you find.

I can get a pict tomorrow ,they have a gas dv fireplace so they will stay warm tonight.

I agree that there is a drain that is plugged. There is one clear drainline that comes from the condensate collar on top of the combustion blower. From there is goes down to the trap/drain collector box. From there the drain goes horizontal to a 3/4 cpvc drain to the outside of the unit. Then there is a trap with 3/4 cpvc 90 's and then it drains to sump . That drain should be clean.. A picture would be the easiest way to explain this for sure. I have never seen this much water. The trap on the unit has a rubber bottom with a clamp and it may be plugged there but I can see the water at the proper level through the clear tubing.

Yes I will try the picture again, After checking all the hoses and the trap on the front of the unit I found them to be clear. I then checked the rubber coupling on top of the combustion blower. There is a tapered cone inside and its supposed to collect the water from vent tube . The 2inch pvc vent tube was pushed too far down and blocked the water from draining down from the collector into the trap..

So far everything is working fine and I thank you for your expertise mygirls dad.
