    Line has gone dead
I added an outside light and ground fault about a year ago hooking into my basement lights. Everything was fine until last month when the fuse in my panel burnt out, I replaced the fuse but now I'm not getting any power to that line. I disconnected the line going to the ground fault but still no lights in the basement. Any ideas? Thanks

You will ned to open the panel and think before doing this kind of work. Do you have sufficient skill and knowledge to work on a main panel. I think you may find an open situation on your black/hot or even the white/neutral.

Thanks for your quick answer. I would have the hydro cut off before going into the main panel. What do you mean open situation and how could it happen?

"hydro"?? I think you need the juice, the power cut off but no hydron involved. An open is when the circuit is no longer a complete circuit, a wire has broken, been cut or come loose at a connection. Could be a loose screw in the panel.

What Bob is telling you is that to resolve this issue you will have to go into the main panel and take the cover off. This is a very dangerous place. You can get very dead or seriously injured very quickly if you do not know what you are doing.

Our general suggestion is to call a professional if you do not know how to safely inside the panel.

If you do, then please get back to us and we can step you through the diagnostic repair steps.

Thank you again for your help. I have a friend that is a retired electrician, but he doesn't get around very well. Now that you have given me an idea of what is going on I will talk to him about coming over to take a look. Thank you again
