I have heard a lot of different opinions on this method of 'Birth Control'. I have heard some people say its very effective if done correctly, others say that semen can make its way out before actual ejaculation. Does anyone know for sure if it works if done correctly?

I wouldn't risk it. Plus it does not protect against STD

It is not effective.The chance of 1 little fish getting loose is too big to risk.

The chance of pre ejaculate having sperm is low(some studies indicate zero) but if your partner has already ejaculated once he may still have sperm in the urethra that will escape when he pre ejaculates.

If a person is old enough to engage in sexual activity they should be old enough to do so responsibly by using more proven methods.

There are too many options available to do otherwise.

This isn't a good or reliable birth control method. Many women have gotten pregnant that way, plus you will get STD's. What else would you like to know?

There's a special word for those people that use only the pull out method for birth control.

That word is "Parents".

There is no such thing as a "pull out method" It merely stops some of the sperm from entering, but there has already been so much sperm in the early fluids

So it is like aiming a gun at someone and pulling the trigger, and saying well instead of 5 bullets there are only 3 bullets, so you are safe.

Really I should have asked the question about pre-ejaculate; that is what I wanted to know.

No, it is not an accurate method of birth control. I got pregnant using the "pull out" method of "birth control". It is not even a form of birth control. Pre- can get you pregnant.

There is certainly some interesting research being done... some recent, some actually from years back that suggest it is not automatic as was once thought. gven the location of the glands that produce the mucus during arousal compared to where sperm is stored. If you are talking just during arousal itself, then there apparently is no sperm in that mucus... the question is how quickly, and at what point prior to actual ejaculation, will the semen and sperm pass these glands to obtain more fluid to add additional fluid to the mix.

The biggest factors appear to be that it can be difficult to know just when to withdrawl, and it can sometimes be too late even if complete emission happens outside of the vagina, and that it is not uncommon for a man to withdrawl, ejaculate and wipe off his penis thinking he is removing any remaining semen and sperm, then reenter the woman.

I guess the question remains, do you want to take the chance? While it is obviously not one of the more reliable methods, it is certainly better than nothing.

By the way, I personally do not use this method myself, We use condoms. I was just curious about it. Thanks for everyone's insights

If you don't have any protection and not deliberately trying for a baby, then you shouldn't be having sex until you get your butt to the drugstore and get some condoms!

And I used a condom, a spermicide, and was on the pill, and STILL got pregnant at 16.

And now that I've been married for 8 years, and haven't used birth control in 10, I can't get pregnant to save my life, even on clomid.

So---there are a LOT more factors involved than just WHICH birth control is used. Frankly, timing is everything.

But I wouldn't seriously recommend the pull-out method to anyone who wasn't willing to have an "oops", simply because most people are not intelligent enough, nor do they have the self control needed, to use it effectively.

Obviously effectiveness will depend on use... but then, that is the same for any form of contraception.

It isn't hard to find. Wikipedia has a lot of really good information, along with references quoting the studies and documentation. You should look it up: Coitus Interruptus. It is a recognized form of birth control.

So true, however I wasn't recommending anyone to use the pull out method. I was only stating facts.
