Disorderly Person charge and BackGround check.
    Hello All,

I appreciate you all for running such wonderful forum and helping out many people.

I am stuck in a problem. Few months back I have been convicted for Shoplifting case for 20$, I have received a ticket went to the court and Plead Guilty .And tranferred it from Misdemeanor to Disorderly Person charge (Which my attorney told is not a crime case anymore, its just like a traffic ticket) .I have also received 1yr Probation and completed my Community services and sent a letter of completion to the court as well. I have also paid all my fines to the court.

I have 7 more months to complete my probation, after which they said it will be Expunged.
I have never been convicted before, and have a clean record until then.

The problem now is I am applying for jobs, generally the Background checks to the jobs I apply are done by a 3rd party, who will just take my SSN and see if I am convicted. I wanted to know, if this will be seen in the record? Because it is now not a criminal offense, will it be seen in the criminal record? How serious is this case now? Will it hinder my job oppurtunities?

Please help me out with your suggestion...

    Hello P:

You said it yourself. The 3rd parties will just do their jobs... Some, however, will do their jobs better than others. Plus, depending on what kinds of jobs you're seeking, the potential employer will ASK the 3rd party to do a more in depth check.

So, I don't know how your potential employers will view your problem, if they see it at all. I also don't know how qualified you are at your profession. If you're real good, and they NEED somebody like you, then your background will have less effect.

Thanks a lot Excon for your suggestion.

Anymore comments on my problem? Will an offense like diorderly person be put out to criminal records by a district court and can be seen by public?

Yes, in Pennsylvania a disorderly conduct charge, even from district court, is in the computer database, and it can be found in a background check. Also, it is NOT expunged automatically. To get it expunged, you must wait five years after the conviction, and then hire an attorney to file for expungment.
