I am trying to change a light fitting in our bedroom but I'm struggling as there are 4 red wires and two black?

No whites, greens or bare wires, just red and black? Can the light be controlled by more than one wall switch?

Are you in the US or Canada?

On a 120 volt system, there will be a white wire and a colored (usually black or red) wire. Red and black wires suggest a 220-240 volt system.

Anyway, before you take anything apart, always draw a diagram, so you can at least get it back to the way it was. Wiring a light should be simple. There are two wires that go to the light. Lift these wires from the old light, and connect them to the new light. Don't take anything else apart!
