Mother seeking Child Support from Father with Joint Custody
I live in Los Angeles California. I filed for child support at the end of January for my 6 month old because I was receiving little or nothing from her father even though he was working.

The first two months of her life he and I were at odds and had several disagreements. I childishly refused to let him keep her overnight during this time. I apologized at the end of the two months and communicated that I was wrong and we should set up visitation not only on weekends but during the week. He declined and has since quit his job and now filed for joint custody.

I believe he is doing so to avoid paying child support even though he has no intentions of keeping her jointly. I am afraid custody will be granted and because he has since got laid off his job I will be required to pay child support. Even though I've had full custody up until now and provided for all of her needs (he has not contributed to any of her upkeep).

I am also inclined to think that once he's granted joint custody he will try to get public assistance to help him provide for our child in an effort to continue to evade child support? Is there anyway I can fight this?

Is there a chance that I could be required to pay child support and he be given joint custody?

Yes, unless he's unfit to the point of being dangerous to the child there's always a chance that he will get full custody and child support comes with that.

You have to PROVE what you are alleging if you don't want that to happen.
