    Write-protected pen drive!
My pen drive Toshiba 4Gb has this error saying media write-protected every time I try to put new files on it. Also, I can't delete the old files in it. I tried some solutions I find in my research like changing the value in StorageDevicePolicies into 0 . It worked but only for a day. The next time I used my pen drive it went back into write-protected again. I tried scanning the device and I found 2 virus which are recycler.exe and autorun.inf and tried deleting them but always the result would say cannot find the files.

please help me with my problem. The device is really helpful to me in my projects and everyday researches.

    Thank you.:(

Download one of the following registry tweaks to enable or disable writing to USB drives.

    Enable USB Write
    http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...leUSBWrite.zip

    Disable USB Write
    http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...leUSBWrite.zip

Once you use the registry hack, you will have to reboot for the changes to take effect. One should also note that if you are using this trick, you should make sure that the users are not administrators on the computer, because they could easily change this setting back.

This works on Windows Vista as well.

You have a variant of a medium risk trojan virus that specifically utilizes USB media as it's means of deployment. Which means that if you or your friends have plugged a USB device into the computer SINCE you had your thumb drive in your computer, their thumb drives are also infected and now infecting other computers. This virus scans for email contact lists on the resident machine and mass emails itself to those contacts. The reason you can't remove it is because the autorun.inf automatically recreates the virus every time you plug into a new computer, so each computer the thumb drive has been plugged into has the same files installed on it that point back to removable media to propagate to.

If you open your task manager and look at the list of processes, you most likely have a process called Game.exe running in the background. This is the main portion of the virus. You need to rid your primary machine of this virus before you can clean your thumb drives. This is one of the biggest reasons to turn off autoplay on all drives.
