    Just living together
A friend of mine is in a relationship (living together for the past 18 years) with a woman who has been disfellowshipped because she committed adultry (he was married when they got together) and they are not married now. She wants to come back as a witness but insists he has to marry her in order for that to happen. Is that true ? If not what has to happen for her to come back?

    Witness to what?
I am not understanding what you are asking. Or is this your subtle way of being judgmental?

She should contact one or more Witness elders and talk with them about this, find out if any further steps need to be taken for penance, and ask about what must be done in order to be reinstated as a full member again. Yes, the two of them will have to marry if, in fact, the elders will allow what they consider an immoral union to be repaired simply with marriage. Your friend may have to become a member too or at least be willing to take classes.

OMG:eek: This is the most asinine thing I've ever read. Jump through hoops set up by holier than thous in order to be part of their little group. "Take your churchy rules and shove...never mind. " You get the point. Who said you have to be a member anyway? Can't you just attend a church and worship God on terms that involve you and God and not the church rule makers?

Oh and if the elders ALLOW your IMMORAL union to be repaired. Tell me this. Do YOU think your union of 18 years has been immoral? Or have the two of you committed your love and devotion to each other and have a bonafied loving union? If you know that, then God knows that too, and He is the only authority you have to answer to.

I think the OP means Witness (capital W) as in Jehovah's Witness. They are disfellowshipped for committing adultery and have to request to to rejoin the Kingdom Hall.

[This is not my faith but I have someone close to me that is a Jehovah's Witness and we just had this conversation a few days ago where she told me this.]

It may be the most asinine thing you've ever read, but those are probably the rules of their church (Jehovah's Witnesses). Someone just stuck a Watchtower between my doors yesterday. Thank goodness I wasn't home to answer the door, since I always get into an argument with them. My BP check last week was excellent, and I don't need the stress.
