    Removing a ceiling fan
I'm in the middle of removing a ceiling fan, to replace it with a basic light (don't need the fan). Right now there are two wall switches that together control the fan:

Switch 1 controls the fan: simple Black and White wire

Switch 2: controls the light on the ceiling fan
    2 wires in:
Black 1 connected to Black 2
White 1 joined to White 2, connected to switch
    Red 2 connected to switch.

    Ceiling junction box:
    2 wires in:
Black 1 joined to White 2
White 1 goes to fan/light fixture
Black 2 goes to fan/light fixture
Red 2 goes to fan/light fixture

New ceiling light has two black and two white wires. (there are two light sockets in the fixture). I'm guessing the 2 blacks are joined to one incoming wire, and the 2 whites to another.

I've omitted the ground wires - that part I can take care of.

My question is which wires do I need to pair off, or which to connect to the light fixture (black or white). I only need 1 light switch, so I have to condemn wires at both the ceiling box and at least one of the wall switches.

THANK YOU for helping me with this!

    John.

Ok, connect the light's white wires to the whatever wire the white from the fan is connected to. Connect the light's black wires to whatever wire the blue/red/striped wire from the fan is connected to. Should work fine.

    Thanks for your answer.

But what wires can I condemn? I only need one wall switch - the one that controls the light - and so I can cover up the other box for the speed control switch. Do I just join the wires and cover the hole, or am I better to sever the connections?

And what about the wires in the ceiling box?

    Thanks again.

You can leave it like it is, and have a switch that doesn't do anything. Just make sure to cap off the wire not being used in the ceiling.

If you really want to remove the switch, just cap off whatever wires are going to it. If it is a single pole switch it should only be 2 wires.
