I'm Suppose To Have My Daughter In A Few Days.. Well That Is What The Due Date Had Said, My Doctor Called Her Stubborn The Last Time I Went To An Appt... lol But Anyway I HAve Tried Walking, Sex, Eating Spicy Foods, Eating Things With Vinegar On It, But I Did Refuse The Castor Oil Just Because I'm Not Taking The Chance Of Hurting My Baby Or Having To Go The Bathroom For Hours, All I Want To Know Is How Can I Help Things Go More Faster? I'm 39 weeks and 4 days the doc thought she would be here a lot sooner than this, but no luck yet. I would really appreciate some help. My grandma is a nurse and she told me that its a lot easier for woman to help things move faster than to be induced at the hospital, please help me I think I'm going stir crazy...

No, your baby is going stir crazy in there ! I don't know, mom, about your grandma's advice, if it is so much easier to help things 'along yourself' then a lot of women wouldn't be induced, right ? Has your doctor suggested inducing ?

My g/f in the states ate pizza when this happened to her and she was in the hospital that night having her baby girl!

Induction is a possibility, but not always a necessity. It carries risks that natural labor does not.

Walking is the best thing you can do to facilitate labor. Your baby will come when it is good and ready to come.

As was said, babies come when they are ready, and unless there is a medical need for them to come sooner, you, baby, and your labor are far better off letting it happen naturally when possible.

Your grandmother may have been referring to how it can be easier to go through a labor that has started on its own than through an induced labor. This is true for many women.

Try to enjoy the last couple of weeks of your pregnancy... take long walks, rest, spend time with your family, etc..

And this is called augmentation, or augmented labor, rather than induction.

Your doctor will make the decision whether to induce at approx 40 - 41 weeks gestation.

She meant that it would help out during labor... I Also Heard that if a baby's head is down in the birth canal for too long than she could die from it... I have listened to tons of different stories at my baby shower and considering this is my first child I listen to everything... I won't even take a tylenol unless my doctor prescribes it to me... and the only things I was asking for help on was to help things move faster... nothing that can hurt her,. if I get hurt by something that's all right with me I will make sure that nothing happens to her though... is there anything that you can help me on... I know wait it out, but my doc was expecting her two weeks ago and he is not sure what is going on either he told me to do all of those things that I have done (except the castor oil of course) I'm not dialated any and its still thick... I know there has to be something that I can do... the doc isn't sure on what is going on either but the baby is healthy and I'm fine

Oh and when I went to the hospital to see why I was up for 12 hours with pain and cramping they sent me home, I was having contractions every 2 - 5 minutes apart... I was so upset

Oh, I was comparing a labor that starts, and continues, on its own, which can often be easier to deal with, than one that is started through induction or helped along through augmentation.

If the baby is healthy and you are fine, then you are just going to have to wait it out. Pregnancy is a wait and see sort of thing. We never know when our patients are going to go into labor. I always advise walking when my patients come to the labor and delivery department and are not in labor.

First babies are usually the most stubborn when it comes to starting labor, and the labor usually lasts longer than with subsequent pregnancies.

I agree, I was just stating that laboring women who receive pitocin for example is called augmentation rather than induction.

Thank You So Much Everyone... I Will Try To Wait It Off... I walk everyday for about an hour off and on I don't even drive anymore because the town I live in everything is right down the road if I need to get to it...

Why would your doctor expect things to start a couple of weeks ago when you aren't even due yet? What's going on is that your baby is still preparing for the outside world... much continues in the last few weeks.

As J_9 said, since baby is fine... you are better off just waiting. Few babies come on their due date, and first babies are more prone to coming afterwards anyway. You won't be overdue if your due date comes and goes so try not to worry.

I can honestly say that when my mom had her last baby girl she to help get labor started because she was late on her due date she took a car ride on a very bumpy road. That helped things a little. But that bad thing was that she never did get 3 to 5 minutes apart with her contractions and we didn't make it to the hospital in time. She lost her mucuse plug and we were on our way to the hospital. Her contractions went from 10 minutes to 6 to 3 and then there was the beautiful baby girl born in the car in a state cops driveway. Luckly his mother was a nurse and came out to help.

That was a wonderful story !

Talk a about bumpy rides. All of us years ago, sort of a riding club and we all had farms, when pregnant rode until we couldn't safely do it any longer and I can say two of us probably didn't give up riding our horses until absolutely the last minute. I think that was the reason we two gals had an easier time and short labor because of those last bumpy rides ! Don't ask how I ever got up on that horse at the time, he was l7 hands high, into an english saddle, but when you can't give up a favourite past time for anything, your butt (and stomach) have wings.
