    Hi, robo35!

Are you meaning are all the grocery food colors made from one kind of dye? If you could elaborate a little more about what you're asking, it would be helpful to those of us who come along to address your question.

    Thanks!

There are several food-grade dyes (food coloring) that are authorized for use in the United States. I'm not sure about Europe or other areas of the world, but I think they're similar.

Wikipedia has an article on food coloring that might help you.

    Hello robo

This is a link to Handbook of food analysis.

It includes a long section on dyes and food colors
Quite a (long) read, but it explains all your questions!
