I start receiving retirement benefits in June and will collect a lpartial lump sum payment and than a low monthly benefit amount for the rest of my life. Can a collection agency file a judgement against the lump sum and get it. It from the state of ariz retirement benefits where I have been collecting diability benefits from for years. Need help answering this ASAP

If there's a judgment already, and your award is NOT from SS or SSI, then it IS subject to seizure.

There is not a judgement yet. Right now my income is judgement/garnishment exempt and so is my home and belongs. I' expecting a judgement from a collections agency cause I co-signed for a car for my son which got repossessed when he went to jail. I not only got his debt but his 2 children, my grandkids to raise for the last 4 years . I will start collecting retirement benefits and that's what I fear they can get. But I may be OK cause the first $154.00 of a weekly check is exempt from garnishment and I won't be getting even near that much. But thanks for your imput.

It's not from social security and you are wrong about social security giving a lump sum. You first check from them is usually pretty large as they give you all past due payments, starting from the date you filed. That's why its important that if you are denied you should file an appeal right away as they go back to the orginial date of application when you are approved.
