My kitchen sink is stop up will not drain what is goning on with it

Let me ask you a few question, is it a double sink kitchen, do you have a garbage disposer, have tried a plnger, if not let me show you how, if you have a double sink fill the cloged sink half way, and put a rag or the plug for the drain on the second sink drain and try to use the plunger if it dooesn't clear come back to us, Thanks.

The most likely place for sinks to clog up is in the lateral,(horizontal) pipe ln the wall going to the vent stack. Your sink traps connect into a pipe that goes into the wall. This pipe elbows into a lateral pipe that runs no longer then 5' and then connects into the vent stack.Remove the "J" bend from the trap and Run a snake through that line,(see image) flush it out with a pan of boiling water and I bet your problem disappears. John, Didn't mean to step on your solution. My apologies! The reason you never see me recommend plunging is, while plunging may loosen the clog and let it slip into the stack or main, it does nothing about the crud that's built up on the pipe walls. The snake and tip whipping around inside the pipe dislodges the crud built up on the walls and that5's Why I always recommend flushing after snaking. To flush any debris awaay that the snake dislodged. Regards, Tom
