Finger nail broke off

OK I was putting clothes in the dryer when I sliped and my fake fingernail got in between the frame of the door and it broke my real nail but the fake is still on. I don't know if I should try and take off the fake nail or leave it on until my real nail starts growing back. Please I need help it really hurts:eek:

cece21 I am a professional nail tech. Just to give you assurance as to my credibility, I have been mentioned in a couple national magazines.

Here is what I suggest.
You stated your natural nail really hurts. So.. leave the acrylic attached for now and put a bandaid on it until you feel you can soak it off.
BUT CeCe, you MUST change the bandaid if you get it wet since you can get a fungus from the water which will settle between the acrylic and your natural nail. ( That is even for a simple hairline crack in the future as well) Moisture breeds bacteria.

If you need help removing the nail just send another note here and I will help you... if you would like.

Ce Ce, I want to clarify that most people call a green nail as having fungus, and so as not to have to explain further, I am saying fungus, rather than what it really is before true fungus appears... which is rare. However, untreated it can lead to fungus.

Thank you so much, all I did to my nail so far was just cut the acrylic nail shorter so I wouldn't bump it on anything else, so do I still need to put a bandaid on it?

CeCe, I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I was thinking that the acrylic has become unattached somewhat from the bed of the nail. No, if you don't feel the need for a bandaid then it is not needed.

How long should I wait before I try and take the acrylic nail off, I don't want to pull the rest of my real nail off sooo what do you think I should do?

If your natural nail isn't hurting too badly now, it is okay to take the acrylic off.

Apply acetone to a cotton ball and apply to the top. Then wrap in aluminum foil. Put your finger under a heating pad. (The heat is necessary,as acetone stays quite chilled and you need for it to stay warm)

If you have NOT gone to a "chop shop" the acrylic should come off quite easily after a half hour by pushing the acrylic off. ( Preferably using a birch wood stick) However, if you DID... you are looking at more work. You may need more advice to get that type of acrylic off.

PLEASE do not rip the acrylic off as it may damage your nail root . Okay?

Okay well if you break it off your finger will hurt worse and plus your finger will look funny. So if I were you I would put a band-aid on it and just leave it a lone. Try to ingore it to so hopefully this helps.. I know how bad it hurts it happened to me once! Sorry so good luck!

This has got to be one of the most painful things ever!! LOL I have had this happen as well, everything that the nail tech told you to do is right on the money!! That seems to be the only way to get them off and stop the pain, good luck and let us know how you are doing.

I had some nails on and this boy went to run as I was walking and he hit my nail upward with his knee and my whole thumb nail came up with the fake nail. It bled a little bit. This lady told me to put a bandage on it and some dr g's clear nails. I wanted to know what will happen and if I should do something other than this.

OMG! The same thing happened to me but I didn't have a fake nail on. And it started bleeding!

Hello you stated that you was a prof. nailtech and I need help I ave fake nails on and o have bumped them hit them all of it they are still on to me they don't look unattached to me but they feel loose and at the bottom I have see and light white color like it may be attached... I don't want to take them off but then again I don't want to lose my fingers I need to know what will be best to do??
