    Stimulus calculated - ITIN
I am applying for an ITIN for my spouse. So the SSN for my spouse in our tax return is left blank. When I checked the return, I find that we are getting the stimulas payment of $900.(I had earlier got $300 before getting married) . I was under the understanding that you get a stimulas payment only if your spouse has an SSN.

Is this corect? Will I have to pay this amount back?

    Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by "When I checked the return, I find that we are getting the stimulas payment of $900"? You are correct that if you file as married then both of you must have an SSN in order to get the stimulus rebate.

I mean that when I did the return on the software and checked the completed return, I am getting the stimulas payment of $ 900. So this was automatically calculated by the software. I read that if your spouse has no SSN, you are not eligible for this amount.

Sounds like a software glitch. Perhaps by leaving the SSN blank the software was fooled? Try putting in an ITIN and see if that corrects it.

I put in an ITIN and it is still giving $ 900 stimulus. What do I do now?

If this is TurboTax you can take a look at the worksheets that are behind the calculations. If I recall, you right-clickon an entry and it will tell you where the calculation came from. So righ-clickon the $900 and see where it's pullingdata from. Perhaps that way you can track it backwards.
