I don't know what my path in life is
I don't know what my path in life is

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hi,

I'm 33 and work full time in administration and study part time at university for a degree in Media Arts (web design/graphic design/photography).

Trouble is I have no idea what I want to do with my life.

I am recently separated, after a 10 year relationship, so everything seems uncertain right now, to the point I'm moving back in with my parents for a while. Not ideal, but necessary to pay off some debt.

I just don't know what I want to do. I have been in administration for a long time, and it's boring. I thought starting a degree in something I have had a small amount of experience in through work (design) would be the way to go, but I just don't know. I'm not thriving at my study. I get good grades, but that's it. I am looking forward to the photography component of the degree. I do like photography. It is perhaps a career I would like to enter, I just don't know. I'm 33 and feel like a failure and that life is a mess!

Any advice on how to find your path in life?

    Lisa

What makes you happy? You've got to find something you enjoy. Our society makes it out like success has to be all about how much money you make and how much stuff you have or how many magazines you end up on. That's crap. It's about more than just being good at whatever you do, it's also about being happy with what you do. I know the whole career assement things are usually aimed more at people just starting college but there's nothing wrong with you taking one now if you're looking for inspiration for a new career.

That's it, I just don't know. And at 33, I am anxious about it, together with that and being recently separated. I think it's a whole lot of things and my life feels like a failure, one big mess. The one I love left me after 10 years.

I love animals and photography. Animals make me happy but I don't know what sort of career I could have with them. Vet Nurse? But that means leaving my degree and starting something else. I don't want to be a quitter.

Pet photography is becoming very popular.Perhaps you could combine the two interests you are sure of and create a Pet photography studio.

Thanks artlady. I guess that would be a distant vision. I haven't had any training in photography yet, however this will come up in my degree in the next couple of years (commercial photography). No reason why I can't play around with that now.

However I'm not sure how I could make a full time living from it. But it's certainly worth researching and following a path to it after hours, while I still earn money from administration.
