    First offender probation
Am I able to transfer my State probation from Georgia to Texas if I am on supervised probation and under the first offender's status?

    Hello j:

I don't see a reason why not. But, of course, I'm not your PO.

I was a probation officer in Maryland for seven years and the key to the process is to stay in compliance and make sure that the state you want to move to will accept you. You must have a valid reason to move there, such as relatives that will allow you to live there and it would be great if you could have some sort of job lined up.

Depending on how long you have been on probation, another option besides transferring the probation is to write the judge and ask him if you can get the probation terminated early or changed to unsupervised status. Again, you must demonstrate to the judge that you have a good reason for having the status of the probation changed.

In my state the caseload burden makes probation transfers to another state difficult and slow. Paperwork has to be completed by the sending and receiving state. If you don't have a good reason for the transfer it is not likely to happen.
