    Different modem = same internet?
High, I have a SpeedStream DSL Modem and I recently got a Speedstream DSL Modem, but of a slightly older model. The thing is, the current Speedstream is rented from my ISP, whereas this modem is from a friend.

Is it possible to change modems, and if so, how is it done?

Probably. Here's a general overview of what's needed:
    1. Access the modem's administrative interface via one of the following methods:
      • Web browser by entering its IP address into browser.
      • Telnet to its IP address.
      • Some Speedstream models also have a round DIN console port that requires a special serial cable that was included with the modem.

Note: A username and password may be required. The default username and password is listed in the user's manual available at Siemens below or via Google search for modem model number.

    2. Note all of the modem's configuration settings.
    3. Configure the new modem with the same settings.
    4. Swap modems.

    Resources:
Siemens (bought Efficient Networks the original manufacturer of Speedstreams around 2001)

Where can I find the modem's configuration settings?

A DSL modem is connected to your local Telco's central office. The DSL provider will need to accept the modem's connection to their network. So your best bet here is to talk to your DSL provider.

There is only one Internet, just different ways of connecting to it.

In the router's administrative interface. Refer to item 1 in my previous post.
