Usually you must serve notice and if they continue to default on the rent you have to go to court to get an order from a judge for an eviction that involves the police.
In some places the entire process can take 90 days. Also you should receive a judgement against them.
I will give a few remarks, sorry if the first couple will sound rude.
Being a landlord is a business, you should not even rent to the first person without knowing the eviction procedues and having copies of standard forms.
You will have to issue them a pay or quit notice ( how far behind are they)
If they do not pay, or move out, you will have to go to the housing court, or the court that handles housing issues and file for a formal eviction, they will be served and given a court date. If they appear, they can give reasons they need more time or why they should not be evicted.
The judge should or normally will set a date for them to be out,
