No hot water coming from shower/tub combo
I haven't used this shower/tub combo in awhile. I tried to fill up the tub with hot water and no hot water comes out. It makes a knocking noise. I do have hot water at the sink. I called my plumber and he said to remove the handle and knock on the pipe. Problem is I can't get the handle off. It is single lever and two screws behind lever. I pulled off the little cap on end of handle but screw inside won't turn. Is there something I am missing. I can't get to the screws without removing the handle. Help

    Hi Sherrie...

Is this a symmons tub and shower valve? If so the handle can be very hard to get off... as you now know. Even if it isn't...

First line of defense here is to purchase some penetrating oil and soak the screw, letting it sit overnight. Then use a LARGE screwdriver and see if that loosened it a bit.

Once the screw gets removed you can try to rock the handle back and forth a bit to see if the handle will pop off. If not, you may need to purchase a HANDLE PULLER (see picture) and see if you can use that to remove the handle. This is available at any home supply store and the salespeople should be able to show you how it works.

If that fails pop back and let us know.. I have a last ditch fix for this, but only to be used if this is a symmons valve... let me know... ;)
