I have a smooth top ge self-cleaning oven. Two weeks ago out of the blue it began to brown baked goods too quickly with the middle not baked through. Rolls brown unevenly (too brown on the bottom and doughy inside/on top/middle). Its as if its decided to be a microwave. I purchased an oven thermometer to check the temp. It preheats to within a few degrees shy of where it is set but within several minutes it reads about 5-7o higher than the set temp. I pulled the knob off the try to adjust the temp but there is no place to do this under the knob. When you pull the knob off it says "don not remove". It is as if there could be a spike in the temp when it is cycling on and off. This is very frustrating as I like to bake a lot. Could this be a thermostat or probe problem? Thanks.

It could be either one. The probe could have lost some of its resistance or the thermostat itself could have gone bad. Unless you have the manual for the unit with the resistance and other testing information available you are out of luck dong it yourself unless you want to guess at the parts that are defective. I do not have a service manual for your unit since you did not post an Exact model number for me to try and look up.

Hi and thanks for your response. It is model# J BP65GV3AD. I also found an instruction manual of sorts that tells me how to adjust the temp. New fangled gadgets... LOL! I haven't tried it yet. Still kind of leaning toward a probe issue. We have owned this house for 10 years and this stove was fairly new when we moved in.

If you have the service manual and a meter then you can check further. I do not have the service manual with all the specs. Most of the specs for sensors are in OHM's and if you do not have a multi-meter you cannot test anything. Sorry.
