Back child support for a 27yr.old
Hi,my son is 27,I've been reading a bit here and there about back child support.I had to raise him by myself because his father was abusive to me and ended up in prison. Is there any chance that I can collect back child support on the behalf of my son? I became ill after I left my ex,and had to rely on public assistance and food stamps, thank you for all and any advise you can share with me.

I believe you have waited too long to do this.

First was there even a court order ? Since normally if there is a court order, and you collect welfare the state goes after child support to pay them back.

But that is the first issue, was there a child support order and how much did he pay if he ever did.

After that you have waited for to late.

Someone else posted this on the Missing Persons Board - she was told (in NY) that she was only entitled to file UNTIL she was of legal age (so she collected for a couple of months). If there is an order for child support, that order lives on until it's paid.

So - have you ever filed before? If not, it is now too late.
