Kitchen Cold water smells of gas (fuel, not foul)
    Hi everyone
I've seen a lot of posts around water smelling of egg etc, but our problem is different.

The cold water in the kitchen (and only the kitchen, not the bathroom) smells of gas - the type of gas used to fuel your stove etc.

If I run the tap for a few seconds it goes, but I'm worried it could be:

    a) Harmful to my wife and I
    b) a very expensive boiler problem

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

It's doubtful that you have a crossconnection between your gas line,(you do have gas iin your pace don't you?) and your kitchen faucet. Sounds more like bacteria in the cold water branch and supply. Do you have a ice maker and are the cubes OK? Let's do a little checking. Unhook the supply from the cold water angle stop. Let it set for a few hours and then drraw a glass of water from the open angle stop. Does it still smell like gas? Let ne know and we'll go on to step two. Good luck, Tom

It usually smells from garbage disposer or air gap.

If you had Gas connected into Water supply - than you would know about it. Trust me on this one...
