I want to know if it's possible to create Hyperlinks from a Quark Document (then exported to PDF) to a virtual storage space? I am producing a very large report with over 4000 pieces of reference correspondence. Rather giving each client an external HD with the reference material on it is what I ask above possible because it's the obvious solution I think.

If the material has a URL that can be reached through a browser, then you can link to it within a document.

Well first you need to have a WEB server. Does your company have one that is open to the public WEB.

No I operate on my own on a freelance basis.
Is it a complicated/expensive process to get one? Sorry - I'm a complete novice about this!

Its not a complicated process and, as for expense, it depends on what you term expensive. As a freelancer, it would be to your advantage to have a simple web site where prospective clients can find out more about you, download samples of your work, etc.

I would do a search on WEB Hosts. You will find many to choose from. A website starts at about $5/mth and goes up from there depending on your needs. I doubt if it will cost you more than $15/mth (and, as a freelancer, its deductible as a business expense).

Once you have the site, you can create a folder for the documents. Its pretty much the same as creating a folder on your hard drive. You can then upload copies of the files to that folder and put hyperlinks to URLs in your Quark/PDF Document.

Me again! My client is not keen to go the route of a web site for confidentiality purposes. It's a digital legal report I'm working on. So it looks like I'll have to go with his idea of a portable hard drive. If I create the hyperlinks to the references on the external hd from the Quark doc on my desktop, then export to pdf and move the report to the external hd will the links not break? There will be a folder for each of the Delay Events - 50 in all and these will contain over 4000 references. Your advice is appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure of this, but I believe if you don't specify a drive, it will look in the current drive. You might want to check with Adobe on that.

By the way, you can make a website password protected. Also, unless someone knows the URL they could have a hard time finding the files.
