Hi, I'm new to taking cuttings. I have a beautiful strong honeysuckle and have taken 6 cuttings, watered and covered each of them with a plastic food bag to give greenhouse affect and placed them on window sill but out of direct sunlight. What I am wondering is how long should these bags remain over the new plants - they are all still doing great 4 days later.

Plastic bag idea is great and they should do well, but poke a few holes in the bags so the plants can breath. There is a jelly like medium you can buy to start cuttings that is much quicker. I don't know the name of it, if but it contains all the nutrients the plants need to get going. Can probably be obtained from a nursery, or they might know where you can buy it.

Oh, and don't change the water the cuttings are in, just add.

Hi... I just love honeysuckle, although mine didn't do to well last year... kept getting spotted leaves, went yellow and then they all dropped off.

Anyway glad to hear a honeysucke success story.
I seem to remember a powder that we used to buy when taking cuttings of any plant, it was called... Hormone Rooting Powder, in a kind of circular pot, white in colour, I'm not sure if you can still buy it but it was very good.

Be sure to check the plastic bags, make sure that they don't get soaking wet inside, only sometimes it can cause the plants to rot.
