Banging in only one hot water faucet
When I turn on the hot water faucet for my bath tub slowly or only half way, there is a very loud banging sound heard all over the house. If the stream of water is slow, the banging continues. The sound continues until I either open the faucet fully or turn it off completely. But when I turn on the hot water faucet quickly and fully, there is no banging. What is causing the banging when the faucet is running partially or turned on slowly? This does not happen in any other faucet in the house. How do I correct the problem?

Is your mixing valve one handle or two knobs? Brand name? Age? My guess is that you have a two or three knob valve. Yes? Cheers, Tom

Sounds like a loose washer on the hot side stem. Turn water off to house, remove stem and check washer. Let us know what you find. May just need to tighten the washer screw, or the screw may have broken off. Good luck and please let us know how things work out.

I have one knob for hot water, one for cold water, and a center knob for switching between shower water and tub water.

Ok, as MGD77 said, you have loose washer on hot water side. Close water for whole house, remove stem, replace washer, reinstall stem, turn water on. That should do...

    Hello Mountaingirl,

I agree with Milo and Mygirlsdad you have a loose washer at the end of your hot stem, I am just attaching the images for your to see that what they are talking about, make sure that you shut off the water to the house before you start to removing the sems also I would suggest to replace all 3 stem washers, Good Luck.
