Three months after my 18th birthday I was convicted of 2 larcney class H felonies. Both are related to the same incident. I have no criminal record before of after these convictions. I am now 27, I have earned a collage degree in economics and make a decent living doing finance in the automotive industry, or at least I did until the collapse of the ecomomy. I want to presue a career outside of the automotive industry, but from what I have experienced the options are very limited. Here in North Carolina expungements don't exists, and the last governor pardoned 5 of over 750 requested pardons, all of which evidence later proved the innocence of the requestor. Now with a job in a faling industry I am lost and really don't know where to turn. This whole incident was simply being young and dumb, and now everywhere I turn there are no opportunities. Any advice on what I could possibly do would be helpful.

This is a tough economy for everyone. Getting a job might be hard, even if you get your record expunged. But it also might not be your answer. Have you considered offering a professional service as an independent vendor? If you are strong in finance and economics, (you misspelled college, so you might rule out proofreading as a service) and if you like to diagnose and solve problems, you could consult to small businesses.

That's just an example, not a specific recommendation. I do recommend that you consider going into business for yourself. If you look around your community, what need is not being met? Can you see yourself providing something that addresses that need for which you get paid?

I suggest talking to the da in your area and ask him his position on the matter. If he is aggreeable you can go to chambers and ask the judge to reduce the old conviction to a misdemeaner and then you can get it expunged.As a last ditch effort tell him you want to join the military and serve your country but can't because of your record. The judge has the power to do that.
