Allowing ulicensed driver to operate my vehicle?
I gave my (now ex) boyfriend permission to drive my car to mcdonalds and back. A quick trip because I was very hungry and he told me I did not have time to stop before I made an appetizer for his sister's baby shower. But he does not have a license. He did not get caught.. in the act. He came home with my car damaged. 2,228 dollars worth of damage and said he hit a pole. We later found out he hit someone and took off. A felony, here in Arizona. When I got home, I told my parents what happened and we made the police report. It turns out whoever he hit had my exact plate number. If I would have been caught before I got home and made that report, I would have been arrested. But my question is, if the state issues him a citation for operating a vehicle without a license, will I also get a citation for allowing him to drive my vehicle knowing he does not have one?

Several problems, but yes, they can also ticket you, but normally it does not happen.

The boyfriend has several charges, first for the accident, for hit and run, for no drivers license and more. He is in seroius trouble.

The thing is - as of now, he isn't in any trouble at all. Our insurance covers my car and the other car that he hit. We'll sue him for the 300 dollar deductible I have to pay with my birthday money but he won't get charged for the hit and run unless the guy he hit presses charges. I'm honeslty hoping he does. Because my ex boyfriend feels no remorse for what he did to that guy and doesn't understand the seriousness of what he did. The penalty for the hit and run (if his charged) is a 500 dollar fine and 30 days in county jail. The only downside is that the fact that he drove without a license will come up. He will have a license issued and suspended for three years with two points on it already. The only downside is, I will also be issued a citation for allowing him to drive. It should be a fine and two points on mi license :(. I know that I made a very big mistake and I am at fault here, too. It's just a big mess and very stressful.

Well at least in Georgia, if he called the police to report his car hit, he has "pressed" charges, and when the cops discovered it was him, they don't have to wait for anyone to pres any charges.

I would expect for him to get a warrant for this issued, I would say I would even be surprised if there he is not ticketed on it

    Hello liz:

You should stick with ASKING questions, because you SUCK at answering them...

You are wrong - absolutely WRONG!

When your insurance company finds out that an UNLICENSED driver was operating your car, they WON'T pay. When the cops find out that an UNLICENSED driver was operating your car, they WILL charge him. When the other driver finds out that an UNLICENSED driver was operating your car, they will SUE you.

My insurance already did pay. We have full coverage. My insurance goes up but that is all. No need to get hostile.

    Hello again, liz:

Then you lied to them and committed insurance fraud. Full coverage doesn't cover unlicensed drivers. It just doesn't.

I'm not hostile - just direct.

I will agree with excon on this, in most cases if they know you allowed a unlicensed driver, they do not have to pay the claim. I have seen companies deny all the time for this.

We did not lie. There is no insurance fraud.

And everything is covered. That part is already taken care of. I heard my mother on the phone with our insurance company. She told the woman the entire story. The man's car is covered and so is mine. All I have to pay is the deductible and my monthly insurance.

Then this varies by State - your mother made the arrangements with the insurance company?

In NY if you allow an unlicensed driver to operate your vehicle you have no insurance coverage if the company decides to get testy.

Have to wonder just what your mother told the insurance company - you don't know because you appear to be a third party.
