I stored gasoline in a regular 5-gallon gas can, but did not put any stabilizer in it. I forgot that I had it, and it is now about a year old. I was cautioned about using it.
Can I use the gas? Can I mix it with a stabilizer now? Can I mix it with other, fresh gas to make it usable?
If it is unusable, what is the safest way of disposing of the unusable gas (and any recommended locations to take it to)?

First question:... in what state are in: if, you are in Texas, New Mexico most of the southwestern states have recycling center... being your old oil and pour it into a bend that is marked oil... gasoline can be used after a year... problem is water in the can... is there any?. was the cap turn tight before storage... problems... first take cantainer to the gas station and ask the manager... not the attendant or better yet go to an auto shop and ask... your question... they have facilities that can handle old oil and dirty oil and dirty gasoline... they can dump it for you... Next, understand the rule... I do not know rule: do not eat, drink or pour it into your car...what you are not sure of...;)

I did the same thing, mixed in some new the next season (probably 3 gal added to one old) and worked it off in the mower. Had no problems. Just be sure to dilute it with a lot of fresh, work it off in small amounts. Another time I worked some off in the auto. A gallon of year old gas into a 14 gal tank was no problem.

Ditto, just mix a small amount with fresh (or with a relatively full car's gas tank, dump a much larger amount but don't overfill of course) you can safely get rid of old 2 cycle gas mix in your car as well...

If you don't see anything rolling around in the can (water) don't worry about it, but you can use a little 95% isopropyl alcohol to soak it up and make the water burn.

I use old gas ocacsionally too. I just do the same thing, mix some new gas with it. And if it has set over a long cold period, I put some dry gas in it too(Iso-alcohol) to get ridf of any condensation.
