Underlay for floating flooring over lino?
Hi everyone - I am going to be installing Torlys 'Florence Collection' Burl Natural cork "uniclick" plank flooring in my townhouse. Part of the project will be to replace carpet in my living room, and part will be to go over top of the lino in my kitchen.

My concern is that, as this is floating flooring going over lino, that there will be a 'tapping' sound when it's walked on. Would an underlay fix this prioblem? Which underlay would you recommend? Does the underlay get glued to the lino?

Do I also need underlay (the plans are cork-backed as well), over my subfloor under the carpet?

Thanks so much for your help. I'm a total newbie. :o

We used mahogany plywood then a plastic sheeting, like the packing material with the bubbles in it, which was recommended. No the plywood doesn't get glued to the lino.

So you put a subfloor on top of your lino, and then underlay?
I was hoping to just put underlay on top on the lino (glued or not) to prevent the 'tapping' sond that floating floors often make; and then the cork flooring...

Yes, that's what I did, mahogany plywood nailed down, then underlay. You won't need the underlay under the plywood. We don't get the tapping noise at all.

Laminate flooring needs cork, rubber or foam pad under it. Some high end laminates come with a padding attached. It appears you say you have cork back material so you need nothing more. I am assuming all tiles are firmly attached.
