I have a cement patio. 12'x20'. I also have dogs that I would like to keep off it. What is best? Wood rails with a gate or iron rails with a gate.

It depends on the look you want. Wood is a DYI project. If you do wood code for me here is 4"OC for the pickets.

Metal can look nice but may be more expansive then what you want to spend. One thing about metal you have to realize it can rust because of electrolysis when grounded by concrete.

PVC fence is another alternative here but also a bit pricey.
